Takashi Murakami: Lineage of Eccentric
Currently thru April 1, 2018, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts is showcasing the collection of Takashi Murakami. Thirteen of his paintings and sculptures, as well as multiple studies are on display in conjunction with fifty Japanese artists dating from the late 10th thru 19th centuries.
As one of the most important and imaginative artists today, his contemporary works include Transcendent Attacking a Whirlwind, Kawall-Vacances: Summer Vacation in the Kingdom of the Golden, and Lots and Lots of Kaikai and Kiki.
Murakami is known for working with Louis Vuitton and Kanye West, and having fans such as Pharrell and Karl Lagerfeld. His works are fun, whimsy, while engaging with works of the past. He's been called "fun, fun, fun" and having a "sense of pure childishness."
Also on display, The Night Attack on the Sanjo Palace from the Illustrated Scrolls of the Events of the Heiji Era. Due to the fragility of the work, it's only on display every ten years, for 6 months at a time (pretty cool if you ask us!).
