Matcha is not only a cute pic, but it's also a superfood of antioxidants and minerals. It has massive health benefits but also a powerful dose of caffeine. Finally, we took a deeper look into what Matcha really is!
What is Matcha?
Matcha is a green powder made up of whole Japanese green tea leaves, and by drinking it, you gain all the benefits. However, in order to keep the health benefits, you need to whisk the powder, and then add in the hot water. You can use a traditional Japanese whisk or use an immersion blender. You can drink this either as tea (powder plus hot water) or how we like it, as as almond milk matcha latte!
What are the benefits?
More antioxidants than goji berries and pomegranates, which help prevent and prohibit oxidation of molecules aka what causes aging.
Same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee however gives you a cleaner buzz, longer lasting and more energizing.
Helps to burn fat (both before working out, and when not working out) and also increased the metabolism by increasing thermogenesis.
A cup after a meal helps to kill bad breath by releasing a cleaning agent.
Where can I find Matcha?
You can buy Matcha from your local Whole Foods, but also at specialty health food stores. It's not a staple item in stores such as Stop N' Shop or Shaws, but we're always on the lookout! You can also order from Amazon, which some swear by this brand. We love ours made for us from the Beacon Hill Tatte. We highly recommend an almond milk matcha latte!
